Props to my DJ’s
“Props” are the currency we use for earning and showing respect among Blip.fm DJ’s. We start everyone out with 10 credits to give when you sign up. If you appreciate a particular DJ, show ‘em by giving them props. Each time you give a DJ props, it costs you one credit. If you want to increase your props score, there is only one way: by getting props from other DJ’s. There’s lots of ways to increase your credits, but for each props you get, you also get one credit.
How do I give props to a DJ I like?
Give props to any DJ by clicking on the thumbs up icon in the lower right hand corner of every Blip. You can give any DJ up to 3 props per day.
How do I get more credits to give to DJs I like?
You can accumulate more credits in a number of ways:
* By Blipping: 1 credit for every 10 times you Blip
* By inviting friends: 1 credit for every user you invite to join Blip.fm that signs up
* By being a great Blip.fm DJ: 1 credit each time props are given to you by another Blip DJ
How can I tell how many props a DJ has earned?
You can see how many props a DJ has earned by looking at their user profile; the number appears in the upper left hand corner of their profile picture.
How come my profile still shows 0 props; I thought you said I start with 10?
You start with 10 credits, not with a props score of 10. To increase the props score shown on your public profile, you must earn props from fellow Blip.fm DJ’s.
What’s the difference between “credits” and my “props score”?
Your “props score” is the number of props you’ve earned; this number should steadily increase over time as you gain respect from other DJ’s. “Credits” are like your Blip.fm currency; this number will go up and down over time depending on how you use them.
Can other users see how many credits I have to give away?
No. Other users can only see your props score, which appears in the upper left hand corner of your profile picture. Only you can see how many credits you have “in the bank” for you to give out.

I’ve noticed that I lose credits for no apparent reason these days. For instance, I had 21 credits at a moment this evening. I refreshed the page and still has 21. I gave a prop to a DJ. Then suddenly I had 16 credits. Where did the other four go? This has been happening to me a lot lately.

Is there any chance of someone inventing “give hate?” Like, if someone blips Nickelback, I can give them virtual hate and the system knows to never play that song for me again? This would be very useful.
Better yet, there could be a 1-5 ratings system that would influence a “picks for you” page. OK, I’m thinking way too much about this.

This isn’t a prop to any dj but myself, not a pro, but also down for music since I was real young and have been recording my favorite songs ever since I was a teenager onto one compilation of my own! My song im hard-on these days is “Sex on Fire”- Kings of Leon (May be title Sex is on Fire? But anyway, I just loved it the very first time I heard it as with many great songs I’ve heard and I haven’t tired of it just yet. Its a bad ass song and I “feel” (which means my feelings of passion begin flowing through me as I imagine my own love and how their sex was on fire and it just fits) when I sing to it, it’s great!

There’s a ‘add to my play list’ on each DJ’s song. Is it ok to hit that button to add to your list without giving a prop? Sometimes a person is without credits or nearly so can we put the song on our list without the prop? If we have no credits, and try to give a prop, it does not go through. I hope I haven’t done this wrong. I love this site and want to do things right. It’s clear it’s useless to ask a question in these comments, because none of them are getting answered.
But I wish that
A) Blip hadn’t stopped giving 1 credit for 10 songs blipped;
B) that credits were given for reblipping someone else’s tunes; and
C) Blip would allow up to, say, 5 props per day per/DJ one listens to, instead of only 3.
I’m out of props to give, even though I’m a pretty active blipper. Sigh.

HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, LOTS OF PROPS GIVEN TO ME BUT NO CREDITS TO GIVE BACK!!! :(( I see the props, I get the e-mail updates, sometimes I even see some credits but once I want to use them, I can’t! It tells me I have none and then it goes to 0!

Blip.fm should give 1 credit to a DJ each time the DJ introduces one DJ to another DJ (mutual taste in music) and the 2 introduced DJ’s both add each other as friends! Introduction Incentive Plus you need to update your banners so they’re more appealing! Happy New Year! 2010!

I have a similar problem as some of the other djs. I have over 6,000 props and yet, while I do like to give out props, my credit balance seems to be declining like crazy. I am now down to only 8! I feel bad because I am forced to be stingy with my props to DJs. Any idea why my credit is so low?

Please consider creating play lists that can be played over and over again! (pages with a page names or titles 18 to a page) With the way these pages are created it’s very hard to find the sequence of songs I created that I want to hear over again. I have to click through all my previous pages to find the page of songs I want to hear… At this rate I’m never going to get any more credits because I don’t want to just keep banging songs that I’ll never be able to replay in a sequence without having to searching hundreds of page to get to them. It would be nice to have a fixed page section that’s easily fixed and replayable and a section that we can just blip songs that don’t get saved, they drop off after 18…this way you don’t have 1,000 of pages that will never be visited again… (if we want to save them we can send them to our play list or to a fixed play list with a page title)

Hmm - I have been receiving props but my credit is unchanged. It seems like it is broken. It is too bad that you don’t get credits more frequently (like with badges, or automatically once a week) since this creates something of a barrier to entry when you are new to the service and already out of credits

I prop a DJ on his picture-icon, adjacent to the song that DJ blipped that I am acknowledging.
Any number of times I prop that song on the DJ’s picture thumb it never shows up on the DJ’s prop/song list. I watch the credits leave my stats as I prop them.
Recently I have then gone to the song after propping their picture. Naturally the song I am crediting is on top with any props visable. My question is where are the props I gave them for that song? They are consistently gone from my credits yet never show for song that DJ has blipped that I mean to prop.
I check now and have to ‘credit’ that DJ twice just so they see I acknowledged them. Where do those credits, given to the thumb on picture icon go?
