Scrobble Scrobble Last.fm

For some reason it seems like all of our new features go out on Fridays. Generally, that’s not a good idea because there’s nobody around on weekends to fix any bugs that we didn’t find in our “Agile, eXtreme Programming” development cycle (read: we spent 20min looking for bugs). But we get all excited about this stuff too so we want to let it loose, and since we call the shots (when Brian isn’t looking), here’s your new Friday goodness.

Now each song you listen to on Blip.fm can scrobble back to Last.fm. WTF is a “scrobble” you might ask? A scrobble is when we tell Last.fm what you’re currently listening to. And, if you listen to most of the song, its added to your listening history on your Last.fm profile. Just like iTunes… but more social.

To get your scrobbles scrobbling, log in and go to your external account settings (http://blip.fm/settings/integration) and create an account for last.fm by selecting “audioscrobbler” and entering your Last.fm username. Click “OK” and you’ll be redirected to a page on Last.fm asking permission to let Blip.fm access your profile, click “Yes, allow access” and you’re brought back to Blip.fm. Yer Dun.

If you already have a Last.fm account set up, you can enable the new scrobbling feature by clicking on the username or icon for that account. That takes you to a page where you can click a link (”Enable Last.fm song tracking”) and you’ll be guided through the same process as above.

Once these steps have been completed the songs you listen to on Blip.fm will automatically be sent to your Last.fm account. It’s done in the background so you won’t really notice anything going on. Just listen like normal and the next time you go to your Last.fm profile you’ll see all the songs listed under the “Recently Listened Tracks” section.

As always, if you have any trouble with this don’t hesitate to email support@blip.fm or leave a comment below and we’ll respond as soon as we can. Also, I’m usually on #blipfm on irc.freenode.net so you could try to catch me there or ask the other friendly blippers for help.

Have a good weekend, it’s nice and warm here in SF. Summer’s just getting started for us!

Been eagerly awaiting this one. Works for me! Keep up the great work guys, and enjoy your weekend :)

Mathew Kenny  on September 10th, 2008

It’s a cool feature but there’s sometimes I prefer to choose the songs I want to listen to and for this I use Deezer as they offer free and legal music on demand. you just have to go to http://www.deezer.com/en and to type the name of the song you want to listen to, click play and it plays, it’s really cool.

fraN  on September 11th, 2008

we were waiting for this! thank you :D

konstructiv  on September 17th, 2008

Hmm. I’ve linked my (brand new) blip.fm and last.fm accounts, but the tracks I’m listening to here ain’t showing up at last.fm.

Marcus Silva  on September 18th, 2008

Yay, cool feature… All social networks talks!

BeamonMusic  on October 2nd, 2008

I also tried to link my last.fm and my blip.fm account. But I was not redirected to a last.fm site where I could give permission to last.fm to let them use my blip account….

Where in last.fm could I do that?
Is it because I am not a paying member of last.fm?

I use blip.fm more than I use my regular music player, so I really would like to scrobble the blips that I listen to.

Please help!

Thanks a lot!

BeamonMusic  on October 2nd, 2008

Uhm…. I got help from my friend and we both figured it out. And now it works…. So sorry for that comment above…

aleph_null  on October 3rd, 2008

Is it me or does the scrobbling not occur for tracks played via the “preview” button even if they are allowed to play to completion?

Is this the expected behaviour?

ANN  on October 29th, 2008

bruno  on November 7th, 2008

the songs I heard on blip.fm this week didn’t get scrobbled. it’s also not scrobbling right now. anyone else realizes that?

bruno  on November 7th, 2008

I guess it happened ’cause I opened my last.fm program. When I execute this program blip.fm stops scrobbling. my problem might be solved right now

bruno__  on November 8th, 2008

confirmed: my blip.fm is not scrobbling anymore. I’ll send an email to you guys

Vinícius  on November 17th, 2008

I though you were competidors.
Anyways, what’s the good in being scrobbled?

Grimbil  on December 11th, 2008

Any chance of getting your plays on last.fm to be blipped? I scrobble plays from Songbird to last.fm, would love to see them blipped too. Maybe a Songbird blip.fm plugin is what I really need.

warren  on December 11th, 2008

i signed up a few days ago and in that time i’ve only have about 3 or 4 songs scrobble successfully.

One of the support guys said this might be due to last.fm not having enough info to identify the track. but the songs actually show up on last.fm briefly as ‘listening now’ with the correct details but it disappears seconds later and doesn’t scrobble.

so this looks like a blip.fm issue to me, is anyone aware of it/looking into it?

Y2zl  on December 30th, 2008

I had my last.fm/scrobbling account linked to my blip account, but none of the songs i listened to on blip.fm were showing up in last.fm.

I deleted the scrobbling service from my blip.fm settings and then added it back. now it works.

Y2zl  on December 30th, 2008

ok, scratch that last post, its not workin.
i’m havin the same problem that someone up above wrote about - songs i’m listening to on blip.fm show up in my last.fm ‘now playing’ box, but they don’t go down into the played tracks list afterwards, and thus aren’t really scrobbled.

Paula  on February 6th, 2009

Your blog is interesting! Keep up the good work!

TravelEden  on February 20th, 2009

Perfect!

I’ve just started using Last.fm again in order to inject some more inspiration into my blips… now it’s integrated.

Perfect!

jeff_lennan  on March 13th, 2009

Seems its more useful if what you scrobble from iTunes TO Last.fm then gets blipped no?

balkce  on March 15th, 2009

I concur with jeff_lennan, it would be great that whatever latest track from last.fm would get the option of getting blipped.

solcofn  on March 19th, 2009

Wouldn’t it be better if the system blipped what I played on lastfm? Is there anyway for that to work?

y2bk  on March 26th, 2009

I second a bunch of these comments regarding blipping what gets scrobbled on my last.fm account. In other words, (1) I play a song on iTunes (2) Song gets scrobbled to my last.fm (3) Blip finds my recent scrobble and blips it.

Blip team: What’s the plan here?

Heath and Miller co.  on April 3rd, 2009

Hi Blip Team tried to reg .but would not work for us will check back later Thanks
Heath and Miller co.

unfinishedperson  on April 8th, 2009

I installed last night and was working for the first few blips, but now tonight not working.

galderz  on April 10th, 2009

@y2bk Exactly!!! That’s the way blip.fm/last.fm integration should work. Whatever last.fm scrobbles to be blipped!

noappendix  on April 18th, 2009

I also want the feature to have what I play in iTunes be sent to both Last.fm and Blip.fm, instead of what I play on Blip.fm being sent to Last.fm.

Bel  on May 31st, 2009

Can we blip songs that were scrobbled by last.fm?

TheLaughingImp  on July 20th, 2009

Bel, It’s not super intuitive, but here’s how I found to do it. Go to Settings. Now click on Services (this is where you add/added your Last.fm account). Now click on your Last.fm name. You should see a list of recently scrobbled tunes.

Hey, guys, can I have at least the most recent Last.fm tune on my profile? And a refresh button to update the Last.fm data? I am thrilled for this integration, but would like a few less hoops to jump through. Thanks!

mattsim  on August 1st, 2009

Agree with most other comments. I wish that scrobbles could be auto-blipped. Or have a way to blip through last.fm audioscrobbler. Maybe we should put this on last.fm.

Jenn  on August 6th, 2009

I’d also love to have my last.fm scrobbles to be automatically blipped!

shellygrrl  on August 19th, 2009

Another one chiming in who’d like to have her last.fm scrobbles auto-blipped. I also think this is how the integration should have worked.

mpomy  on September 28th, 2009

I really like the idea of integration, and I echo the comments of those above that it should be two-way automatically. I know you need us to see all your ads, but it would sweet if we could ‘get credit’ for all our mobile listening when Blip is unavailable.

koshka42  on October 22nd, 2009

I’m trying to scrobble my blip.fm activity, but every time I try to add it as a service I’m not taken to another page, as the post suggests, but just to a field on the same page where I’m to enter my last.fm user name. I do that… and then I’m told it’s invalid. Do I need to so something over at last.fm first?

manuel0097  on February 23rd, 2010

I like the integration but I would really love if what I listen through the audioscrobbler can be blipped into blip.fm
I hope someday it will be posible ;)

dan  on March 25th, 2010

Count my vote for last.fm –> blip.fm tracking. Would love to be able to blip tracks I listen to in iTunes..

So would go like this:

listen in iTunes which scrobbles to last.fm which then blips to blip.fm

ewald  on April 26th, 2010

@dan I’ll second (or third that). I’d love to be able to blip stuff that I’m listening to in itunes.

“listen in iTunes which scrobbles to last.fm which then blips to blip.fm”

puketart  on May 6th, 2010

I paid for last.fm thinking that I can blip what I play over there, what a disappointment! I love blip.fm but I can’t find 3/4 of the music that I want to listen to! Gotta make this happen!

holi  on August 21st, 2010

Can someone tell me if there’s any way that i can make blip.fm to scrobble to last.fm with the album name of the song included?

trode  on October 2nd, 2010

how does it work? and is this plugin following the rules?

tracks that i blip or click in the play list show as “playing now”, but will drop from the last.fm site before the song is complete. This happens quite a lot, only a small portion of the data reported to last.fm seems to “stick”.

guntur  on October 18th, 2010

listen in iTunes which scrobbles to last.fm which then blips to blip.fm

Nekcarccm  on December 21st, 2010

I “forth” that…

@dan I’ll second (or third that). I’d love to be able to blip stuff that I’m listening to in itunes.

zbeat  on February 6th, 2011

What is the time threshold for scrobbling a track? Half a song? Full song? 1 minute?

john  on August 16th, 2011

nice
