Wait, updated design? It looks awesome/ugly/dark/lonely/new/yay. Somewhere in there is probably what’s going through your head right how. I’m hoping you think it’s better (I do, but what do I know). Honestly, what really did it for me was looking at the old design side-by-side with the updated look. Unfortunately you don’t get that luxury, so you’ll have to take my word for it. Trust me, it’s better. Just give it a minute to settle in.

So you wanna know what the deal is, right?

Well, we have some big plans for some new features in the nearer term. I can’t really say much about what those new features are, but we needed more room and a darker color scheme to enhance the… aesthetic. This update is more of a stepping stone than anything, a means to an end if you swing like that. We plan to push another change soon that will really pull everything together. But in order to get there we needed to move some things around and make some more room in general. We’ve learned quite a bit from the first design, what worked and what didn’t, and we plan to learn a lot more by experimenting with a few changes here and there.

Everyone is welcome to rip the whole process to shreds in the comments below or by emailing if you have some flattering or uncouth words to spit at the design team.

In any case, this update went extremely well and I have to give mad props to @yan for working his tail off making sure things were ready to go.

Happy Blipping!

I think there’s a little too much white space. Everything could do with being shifted up, so that you can see all of the right hand box, with stats etc.

The actual speed has improved a lot.

Alt-F4  on February 19th, 2009

@pyrrho: All the empty space is left there for coming advertisements. That’s how it feels with the new colour scheme, it’s so annoying.

josedaniel  on February 19th, 2009

Seriusly, I don’t like to much the new design… toooo dark! I have no problem whit the re-layout of the site BUT the new background color is ugly, I think.

FEATURE REQUEST!!! Can we put our own background images?? twitter like???

GR8FL  on February 19th, 2009

I like the speed very much. I also like the colors and am excited about the changes which I think will help things. Only issues are if you could please see if there can be more spacing between left & right side and also fix counters for listener, prop count, etc.

thephillyman  on February 19th, 2009

I’m withholding comment until I see the end result. Keep up the good work!

truejerseygirl  on February 19th, 2009

I like the dark colors. Only gripe is that the home button isnt more prominent. Other than that, great job thus far.

melodyofyourlife  on February 19th, 2009

Great Work to all. Better, faster, stronger! One question, What is the Profile button? is it not turned on? I click and doesn’t seem like anything changes. but thats minor.

AWESOME, MAD freaking Props!

tuvajeen  on February 19th, 2009

Too dark I think chaps. I do think in the long run that the ability to customise your own pages would be very cool.

Either way, glad you’re making changes for the better.

TroyHolder  on February 19th, 2009

Hey guys, good work on the new design!(I don’t like the new colors, but I didn’t like the old colors either.) We should be able to pick our own colors.

I understand that the site needs ads to stay afloat and prosper, but I really hate the advertisements under my picture!

andhow  on February 19th, 2009

The interface looks shit but the music’s still good. Kinda like “It’s all wrong but it’s alright.” It’s the advertisements. Too damn big.

But! Whatever you need to survive, Blip. We’re here :)

byrn3  on February 19th, 2009

Looks more professional and easier on the eyes. I would prefer just Adsense. Can’t wait for new features :-)

markmac  on February 19th, 2009

i’d also like more customizability. seems more twitter-like now.

lorisgirl  on February 19th, 2009

I looove it, it’s very classy and totally kawaiiii ;)
I specially love the new way to display the info around the pic.

jamreilly  on February 19th, 2009

New design is nice enough. Annoyed that the stat counter for listeners has stalled. Speed goes up and down. i love the site and its concept though and trust you will iron out the wrinkles. good luck.

Miss Bella  on February 19th, 2009

It’s so fast now! I love it.

The design is a bit too…dim, but I’ll wait till ya’ll reveal wassup before complaining ;)

And Ian, Yan has been telling me to tell you about this cause he’s a lazy bum (hehe) but I want my 5k star, and I want it…now! :P

Good job though, really impressive.

Martin Hipfinger  on February 19th, 2009

it’s faster, looks better - very good job!

p00p0ster0us  on February 19th, 2009

Apart from the color it looks the same to me. But it’s a lot faster as of several days ago! I love that.

Now if I could just find a way to follow people who liked the music I like. The people I currently follow have rather differing taste in music.

ivan_filios  on February 19th, 2009

Love it! Congratulations on the new design and keep up the good work.

adbert  on February 19th, 2009

Congrats on the redesign! Keep on rockin’! \m/

dynamohums  on February 19th, 2009

I like

alienfresh  on February 19th, 2009

I prefer the lighter colors, but it’s hard to please everybody :) I’m curious what you have planned with the design, though. Ads are a bit prominent and somewhat annoying. But, I guess they’re necessary. Maybe you can copy something from cursebird, it has smooth transitions and the layout is more frisky.

Moreover, did you remove a feature over the last week? Before, when I clicked on a blip I got a list of people who recently had blipped the same song + their comments to it. Now it’s just the blip on top of the page.

alienfresh  on February 19th, 2009

when I said frisky I meant whimsical. ;)

¡rock on! *thumbs up*

Yan  on February 19th, 2009

@alienfresh, yes we removed that for the moment, we need to speed it up

djballzitch  on February 19th, 2009

Great job! But if your gonna put a big ass ad, i think the ad should be music related, it just seems more defined and less annoying then to see other dumb non-music related ads

Simon  on February 20th, 2009

Love the new Blip… a lot sleeker and easier access our Favorite DJs using the enlarged avatar section, so hats off for that.

subsonicwave  on February 20th, 2009

I have to agree it looks better, But i’m fed up with the slowness of the site. Maybe not the same for everyone. I’m in UK on 20meg cable line and it can be very frustrating, apart from that i need therapy as i’m addicted to Blipping.

subsonicwave  on February 20th, 2009

Now its come to s stand still, won’t even search

gReg0r  on February 20th, 2009

hum, the new ‘not available’ screen with this little reboot thing is quite cool. even if i like the working page much more, it’s been a blast to blip on the updated the last 24 hours. so fast, so smooth … ♥ pls get it up and running again. fast! :)

subsonicwave  on February 20th, 2009

‘The little reboot’ thing has been there a while now. I’ve been getting it on and off the past 2 weeks. Not happy

disobedientgirl  on February 21st, 2009

I think looks cool! Atleast better than earlier one. But you allow us to customise the colours and backgrounds! Like somebody requested before!

blazin  on February 22nd, 2009

Looks clean. Nice update. Looking forward to checking out what else is in store for this site.

JerzoTheKing  on February 23rd, 2009

Yea the update is mad dope. Nice and neat. Very cool color schema.

gigia  on March 5th, 2009

@Yan @fuzzygroove @jeff..

I have only one thing to tell you, guys:
thank you very much.

fisrt, you made blip.
then, you made it even better

many many props!!

acca  on March 6th, 2009

I just love new design. Usually I don’t like when site I visit often changes it but in this case, it a full 10+!

person  on March 22nd, 2009

hello blip crew, maintainers of the site. I’m concerned about an old feature used to have.
before the new design, it used to be possible to see the previous blips of each song.
we could click on “posted on Mar 22 at 6:13 pm”, for example, and see the past blips.
I’ve always loved doing it…
do you have plans of making it possible again?
please, it’s a very important and fun way of navigate on

cyntiarc  on July 24th, 2009

Por favor, não estou conseguindo mandar props para as músicas que eu gosto, vem a mensagem que não tenho: “You don’t have any credits left”
Gostaria de saber qual o problema com o meu blipfm?
Aguardo respostas.
